DCs have played travel soccer for years. They have had some great team managers. Not an easy job, but the parent grasped that being the manager includes organizing the parents. DC #1 now has a wretched team manager - a dad who spends all his time focused on the coach and his daughter's playing time than managing parents. Hoards information, lets us know schedule at last minute, no reminders, etc. Really wish there were time limits on position. This dad was a tournament manager for one year and team manager for last two. I know it is a thankless job, but just do it. There is nothing wrong with a parent asking about the last minute tournament game times, after searching unsuccessfully online because g-d forbid ask the manager if he has the schedule. Dad has only one DC and inherited $ so no job other than this. Now he is complaining about DC being available at last minute for tournament - can' seem to grasp that we could not commit until we knew the schedule.
Can't complain to club b/c he is also on the board. Just had to vent.... |
| why don't you just have 2 mangers, have a co-manager system. Use TeamSnap so you shouldn't need reminders for things, it will be on the calendar you can check any time. |
Sounds like the typical douchebag. Sorry, I feel your pain. Don't get a gift at season end. |
| just roll with whats in place. or find another club. |
| Not defending the manager, but having served as a manager for my kids teams I will tell you that often tournament schedules are not know until the LAST moment. Frustrating for all involved. We tried MANY ways to organize parents, and I can tell you that no matter how many emails, texts of teamSnap reminders you have in place there will always be THAT parent that doesn't read, doesn't look and doesn't care but will complain not knowing pertain details about the team, the games, payments etc. Its a very thankless job, especially if parents don't take on SOME of the responsibilities. |
| And the reason for the last minute schedule by the soccer tournament organizers (board member here): so many teams register but don't pay. Deadlines mean nothing to so many teams! So do you create a tournament schedule without them, and hope they don't scream at you? Or include them, but then either don't get paid or they drop at the last minute and you are scrambling. It's a tough situation either way! |
