First-time black vehicle owner here; please provide your car washing tips!

Anonymous
Admittedly, I haven't washed a car myself since I was a teen. (I usually go to a detailing shop.)

Very recently, I purchased a black truck, and it got pretty dirty from the recent snow. I took it to the car wash, and I left with white spots all over my truck. I took a cloth and wiped away the spots.

Please help me wash my truck in the future. The truck is all black with black rims and a black grill. I want to keep it shiny!

Any product recommends, tips, general advise of frequency of washing, etc.

Thanks much!

Just come to terms with the fact that it’s going to look dirty.

My recommendation is to take your car to a place where people will wash it by hand. The automated ones tend to leave streaks or residue, as you've experienced. That and accepted that your car will not look clean all the time. Arguably winter is the worst because of the white residue of road salt.

Don't want to derail your thread but could people also give advice about keep black interior looking nice. My car is brand new and every speck on the seats shows (not leather).

There are ones where the wash is automated, but the polish/dry is by hand. Those give you the best bang for your buck and get you in and out faster than the fully-hand-done ones.

No problem, PP!

My interior is grey, but I have a very, very sheddy dog--and not-leather seats, too. So, I also need advice on keeping the interior clean. Thankfully the gray will hide some of the fur.

black cars look great, the day you drive off the show room lot, and the day after you have them professional detailed.

its veru difficult to keep them look great. the water spots is a resul tof the har water.

get your self a cordless blower to use on your car after you wash to blow the bulk of the water off. then use a shammy (chamois) to spreat out the last drplets so they dry with out leaving residue.

I use a synthetic shammy called he absorber. love it. you will have to wax/detailclean your black car more frequently to keep it looking good.

i use micro fiber towels to wash my car. and I wash the towels in the laundry.

quick notes. really hose the car down good and try to knowck off as much hard debris as you can. sand salt, ect. since if you put your soapy towel over a spot with crusty dirt, you will just be wiping around the custy dirt and scratching the clear coat/paint.

work top to bottom, saving the wheels for last.

never every wash a hot car. or spray water direclty on the hot wheel/sbrakes or engine.

do not neglect the engine. open the hood and hose it down from time to time.. light spray nothing hard and direct at any componets.

After I go to the car wash I usually take a damp rag and wipe mine down and go over the problem areas that are always missed...not much more I am willing to do.
