Semen analysis results

I meant to post this here not in expected mothers:

Need some guidance from those who know more than me. Got DH's SA results and they were horrible. This is all super surprising to DH and I since we have two living children ages 2 and 4 and I just had two back to back chemical pregnancies in July/August. Wouldn't that indicate that he has some motile sperm?

Volume (ml) - 2.0
Concentration x 10*6/ml - 15
% motile - 0
Progression - 0
pH - 8.0
Viscosity - Severe
% normal morphology - 1
Round cells x 10*6/ml - 1.0
WBC - n/a
Total motile sperm - 0

For reference DH collected these at home at 6:15am and then delivered them to the office by 7:50am and they were analyzed at 8:07am. He did not know he had to keep them at body temperature so he put the cup in a plastic bag and then inside a lunch bag and transported it by car. He then had to walk outside (it was -7 degrees out) and into the doctors office. Would that affect the results?

I think the length of time and temp can impact results. That said, I doubt it would be that extreme. Generally they like 2 SA's when results are this poor.
Many men, I think over 50%, develop varicocele veins over time, they generally don't know because they have had kids and it is assumed their sperm is fine. If I were you, I would schedule an appointment with a urologist. They can usually diagnose with a physical exam. There is a surgery that can repair varicocele pretty easy...
If he has a varicocele, you may also want to ask for a DNA fragmentation test.
Again, two SA's are usually performed to confirm there is an issue, but I am all about getting appointments setup stat.
I recommend you join reddit and checkout their infertility group, search SAs and DNA frag, etc. There are many posts on there, and a wealth of knowledge that many times surpasses the Doctors we have been to.

I would do another test before seeing a urologist. You’re supposed to keep the sample at body temp. It definitely could have influenced results.

When I did it, I gave the sample at the doctor's office. Can't imagine why they'd have him jerk off at home and take the cup into the office later.

Doc said my sperm was "as strong as an 18 year old's" (preen).

Can’t he just do an sample there? Seems like the cold did affect it, but only one way to tell.

Op here - yes he is going to repeat it at the office. We just didn’t know it had to stay warm or the time limit was such a bit factor in the analysis. Obviously it’s more comfortable to do it at home so we thought it would be fine. Looking back in hindsight he should have done it at the office!

We were just super surprised by the results given our history.

I'm surprised by your results. Two chemicals in the last year show that as of recently the sperm can penetrate the egg. I would get a second one in a few weeks and have him do the sample in the office. Also, did he get sick or take medicine around 3 months ago? A fever and some medications can temporarily damage sperm.

Op here - no he wasn’t sick but he was taking a lot of Sudafed at one time but stopped 6 months ago after reading that it could affect his sperm.

I did it at home, put tge cup in the paper bag, got there 30 minutes later, and was told it was the largest amount of sperm the technician had ever seen in a sample.

The guy appears to have fathered two children, by your post, so it’s not really clear what’s going on here.

Op here - yes that is correct. And it was fast (month 2 and 3 of trying). We are now trying for number 3 and on month 7 so it was recommended that we get a semen analysis done.

We were super surprised by the results given that we have a 2 and 4 year old and had 2 chemicals within the past year.

I think PP is saying that producing the sample at home and taking it to the office is not by itself going to destroy the sperm. My DH also did it at home and took it to the office, similar time frame to OP, and had good numbers. Also I don't think he kept it next to his body the entire time. But it was not -7 degrees outside. Repeating the test sounds like a good next step.
