I should know this but I don't. Did all 8th graders take the full CoGAT, or only those who applied to magnet HS programs? I don't remember my 8th grader saying anything about the CoGAT one way or the other.

Larlo's overall performance is in the above average range, and his Verbal Battery score is much lower than the scores on the other batteries. He has a significant weakness in verbal reasoning. Whenever a student shows a relative cognitive weakness, the goals for classroom instruction are
- to use the student's relatively stronger areas to encourage the development of the weaker area.
- to modify individual instruction so that the student is not forced to rely on a very weak ability in order to learn.
Because verbal reasoning skills are so important to success in school, encourage Larlo to improve these skills. Focusing on reading comprehension can build verbal reasoning abilities. Larlo would also benefit from a language curriculum with additional opportunities for developing his speaking and writing abilities.

Gee ... thanks for the guidance CogAT.

My child applied to Poolesville SMCS and RM IB. No MCPS percentiles were listed on the score report.

Did you receive a letter from RM IB? Already? DD is beyond worried for results and can't wait.

Not sure the difference between age rank and grade rank. Anyone else know?

I suspect kids will need across-the-board 99s for admission into Blair magnet or RM IB. This same kid was not admitted to middle-school magnet.

Age rank compares students the same age within 1 month. Grade rank compares students the same grade. If a child is oldest or youngest in a grade, there may be a difference.

Ah, thanks.

If I may, is your child towards the younger, middle, or older side of the grade?

I ask because my DC is younger but in similar testing last year last year did less well on the age percentiles - opposite of what I would have guessed!

December birthday, so middle?
