MCPS Middle School Accommodations ADHD/HFA

Anonymous
Our DC will be heading to Middle School next year. Would love some insight into what accommodations are possible and helpful in an IEP for ADHD/HFA in the Middle School Environment. What does your kid find most helpful? What are teachers most likely to implement? Thank you!

Same profile.. DC has no social accommodations. There was a rumor the school counselor was going to start a social skills group, but counselor said there wasnt enough interest.

Look for technology accommodations, https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/hiat-tech/

Specifically under the link Tool Finder and see what aligns with your child's needs. Dont be afraid to ask for things not on the list. I've found MCPS to be very willing to accommodate, especially with technology. Your DC may be able to use a personal device such as ipad or phone if there is something specific that isnt available on chromebook (just know the device wont be allowed on the mcps network)

DC also meets with resources teacher once a week during study hall to be sure assignments are recorded and DC has a plan for how to accomplish them.

Also ask for graphic organizers, sentence starters etc.

Hard to be more specific without knowledge of your childs specific weaknesses.

We are also headed to middle school in the fall with a similar profile. The school IEP is about to start on an individualized transition plan. I don't have experience with that but it sounds good. Has your team raised that?
