Infertility Support and Discussion

I'm just curious- I was diagnosed with PCOS. The only symptoms were the "pearl necklace" ovaries and irregular periods, which I took metformin to regulate. I'm currently pregnant, which was a total surprise and was most unexpected. During an ultrasound at 12 weeks, the technician said she didn't see any of the pearl necklace ovaries at all and wouldn't have known I had PCOS if I hadn't told her.
I was just wondering if PCOS ever goes away on its own. FWIW, I'm 33 years old and healthy. Thanks. |
| I'm no expert but I believe that the ovaries shrink at this stage of pregnancy so even if you had PCOS it wouldn't be evident on sono now. |
| Ditto on the PP. During this stage in pregnancy, the follicles in the ovaries that are the "pearls" are likely to have shrunk. Also, that can just happen over time and the "pearl necklace" is actually not present in the majority of women with PCOS. My understanding (coming from having been diagnosed with PCOS young and 15 years ago, getting consistent treatment from an endocrinologist and during a lot of my own research) is that you can influence how actively the PCOS affects you through various treatments (metformin, diet, exercise,e tc.) but it's not going to go away. Once I could get pregnant, the pregnancy hormones take over and I was in better shape hormonally than ever. |
