Anyone applying to only one school?

Anonymous
After researching like crazy, and really thinking about it, I think we're only going to apply to one school. There's only one school I can find that meets all my criteria, and is not a logistical nightmare -- I really love this school, and think it would be perfect for DS. If DS doesn't get in we'll move to a good public school.

The one school isn't particularly competitive, it's not super easy to get into, but it certainly isn't a big 3 or even close, but we'd need substantial financial aid so I think it's still a longshot, which is OK because I really am OK with the public option.

My question is -- is there anything I should do specifically in this circumstance? Should I tell the school upfront? Wait until they ask? Be refreshingly honest, or think of a better way to frame it?

Thanks!

Good for you for finding the school you feel is the best match with your family. I would definitely communicate your decision to the school both verbally and in writing. The thing you should stress is that if accepted, you will enroll. It could appear that you are struggling with the private vs. public decision.
Good luck!

I am not sure if you are homeowners now but it isn't always easy in this economy to just sell your house and move. So keep that in mind if you don't get accepted.

We did just that. Different circumstances, different school, but we did write a letter to let them know that it was the only school we were considering. Had we not gotten in we would have kept DC at the preschool for another year.

I'd tell the school you really love it and it's the only school you've applied to. I see no downside whatsoever in sharing that information with the school. You're not desperate or groveling, so it won't be misconstrued.

Same thing happened with us. We were applying for Nursery a few years ago and applied to just one school because we loved it. Had we not gotten in, DC would have stayed at the old preschool and we would have applied again for PK. We wrote a letter, as well.
