Looking for DCUM's picks for groceries and chores apps. These apps would be shared between multiple family members.
I'd prefer a groceries app that has categories like produce, dairy, etc. Would love to see a way to pre-populate the list with frequently purchased items and have a database of standard items that could be looked up and easily added. Bonus points for a bar code scanner capability. The chores app would have a way to schedule specific chores for each day or week. Once the chores are completed, I'd like the app to show that the child (or spouse :lol ![]() Any suggestions? |
Hi there. OP again.
Has anyone used the following apps? If so, do you recommend them? (I included the app store rating and # of reviews in the parentheses). ChoreMonster 2.3 (352) OurHome 4.5 (541) Chore Pad 4.4 (56) Homey 3.9 (209) OurGroceries 4.8 (21.9K) Out of Milk 4.2 (1.8K) Grocery Pal 4.0 (339) Grocery iQ 2.9 (882) Wunderlist 4.7 (11.9K) Cozi 4.8 (130.5K)) |
I used to use Out of Milk. Then it started annoying me (can't remember why!), so I switched to AnyList. I love anylist, but I have a simple version. I think you need to upgrade it to share it with a spouse and it doesn't seem to scan bar codes, but you have a list of frequently used items and it breaks things into categories.
It also does lists other than grocery -- basic list (which I use for a list of errands or other tasks) and categorized list (you customize it to whatever you want). |
OP here again. Thanks for your feedback on the Out of Milk app. Doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement.
I'm leaning towards the OurHome app. I watched the video and it even has a grocery list function (although not as advanced as I was hoping). It does have a lot of the features I'm looking for, though. Chores + Rewards for all members of the family. |
I like our groceries. Syncs between phones and an online account accessible on a computer. We have categories of stores: Costco, TJ, Home Depot, so many items are categorized as only to be gotten there and we keep a running list.
You can add a list of items that go with a recipe and include notes and add that to a shopping list. We've used it for 4 years at least. |
Oh op again and the sync means once my dh gets milk and crosses it off it leaves the list so I won't get it either if I'm going to a different store for something else. We got the app after each one of us bought 2 dozen eggs for a brunch party. |
We also have used our groceries for years and like it. |
Our system is pretty low tech -- we just use a text file in dropbox. |
