I spent the last six months working on Project Ungoverned? The Online Learning Landscape. It takes a deep dive into
online education from primary, to secondary, to college, to all the other types of online education. May be of interest to this
crowd. I was surprised to learn there is at least one fully virtual online charter school in DC.

Online Elementary - shameful!

I haven’t checked out the podcast, but online elementary school would be perfect for those looking to homeschool. You get the curriculum and free resources, in some cases even a computer so the child can accesss the “school”. This would also work well for folks who have kids with medical issues that may prevent them from attending school. It’s great we live in a time where there is flexibility and choice with education, especially primary education.

If you want to homeschool there are already programs for that and school districts have hospital programs, that is not what this is about …. scam!

It sounds like it's a homeschool program. A friend tried it with their kid who had medical issues and missed a lot of school. It wasn't just go on the computer, the parent had to actually do a lot of work to support learning. They ended up enrolling in a traditional school.

Another city, but my niece did online school for half a semester.

Was being seriously bullied and the school was unable/unwilling to help address. Psychologist strongly advised getting the child out of that environment.

Child did online school to finish year, and returned to a new school the following year. Was a godsend.

I think an online-only program can be good for some kids, especially those with medical issues that make it difficult for them to attend school. But it's also ripe for misuse, and would require a lot of oversight. Plus, you have to make sure your kid gets a chance to socialize with other kids.
