Enriched magnet level? Classes at ssims

Ds recommended for applied investigations in math 6 and historical inquiry global humanities 6 at ssims. Any feedback on these appreciated? Trying to decide between this and argyle.

My child is in the Applied IM class at SSIMS. He is challenged, likes his teacher. He likes the format of the class, e.g., group work, partner math challenges, etc. Many of his classmates are former CES/HGC students. SSIMS uses a block schedule so classes meet for a double period (125 mins) two or three times per week. He reports that the class goes quickly because of the peer group. The teacher seems organized based on emails sent to parents/students about upcoming assessments and special assignments. She also keeps the google course site updated and the online gradebook.

Does that mean that students in the applied IM class only take 7 classes total, rather than the usual 8 classes SSIMS students take?

No, there are 8 periods. All the classes are long because of the block schedule. I should have been clearer!

No, there are 8 periods. All the classes are long because of the block schedule. I should have been clearer!

DD is an 8th grader st SSIMS. The class periods are about 80 minutes long. I was confused by your saying 125 minutes.

Sorry, I was thinking of Spanish Immersion which is a double period.
