They HATE it when they can't advocate for their own interests under the guise of speaking for lower income communities.

Some of these folks have been involved in the Woodward project for years. We want their perspective and knowledge of the past. This has been going on for a long time.

However…to respond to some comments, they propose an alternative to the BOE that would cut Viers Mill Elementary in two for split articulation. The half in the walk zone to Wheaton would go to Wheaton. The other half would go to WJ. This is instead of all of VMES going to Woodward.

Thoughts?

Horrible. In 2 years they will cry that Wheaton is overcrowded and how horrible it is for taxpayers not to fund an expansion of Edison "for equity". When they should have just done the boundary study correctly without inflating Wheaton HS capacity with seats that don't exist.

+1 the utilization presentation made it clear that it is Wheaton that needs alleviation, not Woodward. So this will make Woodward 76% utilized and Wheaton 93%. This is not parity and equity.

And Woodward shouldn’t have 9% less utilization than WJ. That’s greater wear and tear on the older facility. But more importantly, demand for WJ magnet will be greater than Woodward magnet creating capacity issue at WJ. This is fiscally irresponsible to build a new school and not use it.

Learn to read and do math. Look at the slides with the projected +/-20% enrollment to and from various programs. All you Farmland richies do is complain about Woodward having a Perfirming arts program, so I would assume you are the 20% leaving. And if your prediction that it’s so terrible or undesirable is right, those spots won’t all get filled with kids from other schools. That’s how you will get holding utilization equity in modified option B.

In the optional alternative, Wheaton already starts crowded, then brings in 20% more for their STEM programs! This is not equity. But we all know that Farmland only wants to go to school with people within their socioeconomic and religious circles.

+1 it does feel like some of the vocal people from the Farmland demonstration are exclusionary and only want their kids to go to school with people from the same socioeconomic/relgious circules

I understand the statements re: socioeconomic circles, but I don’t know where you’re getting the religious aspect unless it’s your own bigotry. I did not hear a single person testify about anything that had to do with religion, nor is WJ a school that is predominantly any religion, certainly not any religion other than Christian.

The last few accusatory posts have also singled out the Farmland community when many of the individuals who testified or are leading opposition to the Superintendent’s plan are from Luxmanor. I had considered it a “shorthand” but given the now-deleted posts about the “Farmland community” from last night and this morning I’m not so sure.

Well, now that I know a lot of the criticism against Farmland is antisemitic, I will hold it in even less regard.

It’s not antisemitic. It’s reflecting the data about who in the Farmland communities send their kids to MCPS versus the Catholic schools down the street. The neighborhood segregated themselves.

Also, look back at all the threads about Tilden. Seems like each parent group has their own agenda.

Some of the comments directed at Farmland on this thread were clearly antisemitic.

And where are you getting your religious preferences statistics data? All three Tilden elementary schools are very diverse and similar in many ways. When debating Woodward recommendation, there is no reason to single out Farmland, unless one has some issues and needs to look into mirror.

Antisemitic? Not sure about that occurring. I wouldn't agree with it if it had occurred. That allegation does get thrown around a lot. Some of the comments by Farmland (and Luxmanor) were clearly racist and focused on the property value of their home though.

A bunch of comments were deleted so it’s hard to judge the accusations of antisemitism because the posts they were reacting to were mostly deleted
