Infertility Support and Discussion
|
I have been hearing that acupuncture can be really helpful for fertility issues. I don't have a specific issue or dx, just my age.
Can someone tell me more about it? (like, how often you have to go, how long is a session, costs, etc.) Also any recommendations for practitioners would be good. I live in NoVa and work in DC so either location is ok. Thanks! |

Dr. Sen Huang - he is SO nice and a wonderful gentle Doctor - and works with a lot of fertility issues - I don't see him for fertility (I see him for other issues), so I don't know the details, but I have a lot of friends who do.
He's right near GW - and there is free parking, etc. You can read about him online, sorry don't have the link handy, but if you search his name you'll find it. |

I see Kerri Westhauser who has offices in Falls Church, DC (Dupont Circle) and Bethesda. She is wonderful. Sessions last around 45 minutes - 1 hour depending on how much you talk about what is going on beforehand. You can be in and out in a shorter amount of time. The actual treatment is around 25-30 minutes.
I think she charges between 85-100. I used to see her once a week for fertility. When going with IVF, it is different. If you choose to try traditional chinese herbs then you see Kerri less often. |

I did acupuncture once a week before and during my IVF cycle. I saw Lisa Eaves in Tenley Town who was great.

OP,
I was going through acupuncture for hives, of all thing(!), but shortly after I finished one session, which lasted a few weeks, I got pregnant on the day my period was to arrive. I did bleed a few days later - heavily, in fact - but sure enough I was pregnant b/c I have the 5 yo as proof! (BTW -I was 37 - no previous pregnancies.) So I swear it works. |
| I like my acupuncturist, but really think it has limited value when your dx is age. It can help regulate cycles and hormones and bring more blood flow to the uterus, but it is not going to stop your eggs from having chromosomal abnormalities. It can help with relaxation, and frankly it was worth it to me just to have someone pay a lot more attention to me and my cycles/body than my RE's office was doing, but it is not a magic bullet for age. |
| PP, I agree totally. I've really enjoyed my acupuncture sessions, but they've probably been therapy as much as acupuncture! |

I saw Allison Kitchen in Georgetown many years ago. I think she is still there. I stopped going after I had my baby. Her email is dcacupuncture@gmail.com
Good Luck |
| I have seen Kerri Westhauser too...Can't say enough great things about her...she's awesome. I'm still not pregnant...but at the very least, it helps me psychologically. |
| Can anyone recommend anyone good for acupuncture/herbs in Arlington? |
| To PP: Kerri Westhauser has an office in Falls Church, if that helps. Her number is 202-270-7389 |
