Hey DCUM Fam!

Check out our community preview of Takoma Education Campus, one of Uptown's most exciting school choice options. With the new "north" middle school coming online soon, big changes are in store for Ward 4 education options.

This is the first of several "insider previews" we hope to share with you over the coming weeks.

The MySchoolDC lottery date for elementary schools is March 1st.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Hey Christopher, how many OOB students has TEC taken for prek and kindergarten the past few years?

Hi. I'm not as well-versed in this as I used to be. You can check out the data for yourself at http://enrolldcps.dc.gov/node/61.

From my reading, it looks like 2 kids without preference got into K, but all younger grades were in-bound/Early Access or sibling preference. Please do check though or call the school to verify. Good luck!

We are IB for Shepherd nearby, but wow, Takoma looks really nice!

Anyone know whether any other DCPS schools have a dance studio?

This is so helpful! Thanks for doing this. We are very excited about TEC for our incoming PK3 student!

I know Amidon-Bowen does, but cannot imagine anyone living close to Takoma coming all the way down to SW for school unless they worked there.

J.O. Wilson does, or at least did a couple of years ago.

We loved TEC for preschool and K! We were there many years ago, but it was a lovely school with great staff.

I would assume as an early action school that they wouldn't take any OOB for PK3 or PK4, as they must take all of their IB students - and the data matches this. It would appear that they had 4 OOB in K (two with sibling preference), and 15 on the waitlist who are OOB.

The problem is the free-fall after that because of the horrible MS/HS options.

TEC parent groups are doing such a huge push this year to drum up interest in the school. I don't really understand why if there are in bounds kids wait listed. Is it to get high SES families to rank it higher since it's really action now?

*early, not really
