7 day old baby. We have her in a onesie t shirt, footie pjs and a swaddle up. Is it too much to swaddle her with a carters swaddle blanket too?
Yes, too much. Never put something on top of a swaddle. Get a fleece swaddle and do just that and the footie pj's (which should be cotton). My daughter we did just a diaper and a fleece swaddle.
Nope--but just keep the baby in the onesie. We double swaddled all three of our kids, who wore a onesie underneath. They were all warm and no way were they getting out of that swaddle!

Double swaddle with footed pjs in the house or out and about?
Personally, double swaddle during the day but footed pjs at night and double swaddled is way too much |
Yes, it is too much unless you live outdoors.
We did footed pajamas and a double swaddle (two thin muslin blankets) for the first two months. My baby hated swaddle sacks, but she broke free from one swaddle so I second kept her in. This was in the summer (no AC) and she was just fine. Long as every layer is not super bulky, I would not worry about overheating.
Our ped said the baby should wear as many layers as we did, and maybe one more. Small babies can overheat, and they are not as effective as regulating their body temperature. Footie pajamas and one swaddle is fine, unless your house is so cold that you are wearing multiple layers.
Sounds like too much with a onesie and footed sleeper underneath, unless you keep your house especially cold.
