Oh, dear Lord.
It was a mistake in the production booth. It was a BAD mistake. The hosts admitted it.

I don't know how production booths work, so I don't know HOW something like this could happen. But, it did. And, if it was somehow intentional, you can bet that the personal responsible is looking for a new job.

You can't accidentally post it if someone didn't create it. And there was no reason for anyone to create it now other than wishful thinking. Even if they keep these kinds of templates for public figures so they can put them up quickly if something happened, there's no reason to fill in a year of death until the death happens, it's an easy one to add quickly.

Very naive statement. All good newspapers have obituaries prepared and ready to run. They have done this for years. I'm sure the same with networks.

It was a terrible mistake. They corrected it and apologized immediately.

Matt Whitlock, former Deputy Chief of Staff and Communications Director for Orin Hatch has said that even though Hatch is younger than RBG, he would routinely have major outlets request advance obit information. It's not uncommon.
