Reapplying to school for K when rejected there for preK

Anonymous
Is there any sense in applying to a school for kindergarten when DD was rejected for preK? We really liked the school, but it is a very hard school to get into. I am wondering if we should even bother applying again. DD is happy at her present preschool, but it only goes through K. Any advice?

Sure -- demographics are different every year.

It depends on the school. Care to share?

It depends...did they tell you why your child was rejected for Pre-K? And if so, has anything about that situation changed since last year?

OP, here. No, they (SFS) did not tell us why DD was rejected. She had great test scores, good playdate (from what I could tell), etc., but probably so do most. I am leaning to not reapplying b/c it's probably just a waste of time.

I would reapply based on my conversations with SFS that mirrors your situation.

I would reapply. They probably have more spaces in K because most of the alumni probably apply in PreK. You odds may be a bit better this year.

Also, you can ask the Admissions folks how many people are expected to apply. I know they let in between 14-18 new students in the K year.

If all went well the first time around and the child was rejected, not waitlisted, I'd suspect the odds of getting admitted the next year are pretty low. But I still think that if you really like the school, you should give it a shot. You never know!

Sidwell takes 26 for K. Or by "new" do you mean non-sibs/non-alumni?
