Where can I get a car cut for the Pinewood Derby (Scouts)?

I am located near Old Town, Alexandria. The local Ace Hardware used to do it around this time but they aren't participating this year. I know the Scout Store in Springfield is having an event this Saturday but hoping to find somewhere closer to Old Town and not necessarily limited to this Saturday. TIA!

I would ask your den leader. It is not unusual for a parent to not have the tools needed to complete the project. Maybe your den leader can put an email out asking if anyone would be willing to volunteer to help those that need assistance. Usually you will find that a couple of people offer to help out.

I'll bet you aren't the only one in the den who would appreciate a little help!

The Scout Store is pairing up with a woodworking store in the same shopping center - they may be able to help you outside of that one event time.

Our pack set up a time to borrow a wood shop at one of the high schools in the area. Perhaps your pack may be doing something similar?

We have 3 (only need 1) but are nowhere near you.

Home depot may be able to let you use their miter box hand saw. Its normally free to use if you are buying trim. You can cut a wedge or a low-profile rectangle design with it and then sand it to make it more aerodynamic when you get home.

Sorry,I thought you just wanted the car.

I thought precut cars were not allowed? The whole point of the event is for kids to learn how to work with tools and make their own car.

the boy scouts sell kits. to make it fast, you have to do stuff to it. You Tube for examples. The engineer's one is best.

Some allow them, some don't. My kid used a Dremel tool to shape his blocks and did not bother getting anyone to cut with a scroll saw after his first year, so there is that as another option.

For all of you who have a car to supervise this weekend...

There are others but I really liked this one.

This is so strange. When I was a child we took my fathers hand saw and other tools from the garage and figured it out as it was the job of the scout, not the scouts parent. Explains a lot.
