Planetarium for toddlers?

Anonymous
My 15-month-old son is obsessed with stars and the moon. He's constantly pointing and announcing their presence in books and in the night sky, and everywhere else he sees a crescent or a star shape, and always wants me to turn on the little star projector in his room.

Is there a planetarium experience in or near D.C. where I could take him? I'm not concerned about him being afraid of noises in a dark theater, but he will be shouting "STARS!!! MOON!!!" nonstop so it needs to be a venue where that would not be inappropriate.

Air & Space Museum has a Big Bird space show (still probably too much for an 18 month old but you could try it.)

Rock Creek Nature Center in RCP....when the shutdown ends.

If you are willing to make the hike, the MD Science Museum in Baltimore has a planetarium with several shows daily that are geared specifically towards children. The planetarium is included in the price of admission.

Yes. This is a great place for little kids.

Fair warning, though -- the surround projection can make some people nauseous.

The RCP planetarium wants children to be a bit older but would not object if the baby is not disruptive. They have a special show geared toward younger kids.

Guessing the pandemic might play a factor in finding one.

Buy a home planetarium machine.

Constantly shouting stars and moon is very disruptive. With that said, wait maybe six months for this one and look at the other options now?

Probably not for OP, since OP was looking in January of 2019.
