Boys ballet: TWSB or MYB?

Anonymous
I have a 6 year old boy who has been taking weekly classes for about a year. We’d like to find a place that offers more specialized training for boys, mostly in the hopes that he won’t have to be the only one. It seems like The Washington School of Ballet and the Maryland Youth Ballet would be good options. I’d be grateful for any insights about these programs or others.

Go with whichever one is closer to you as you will likely be doing at least one class during the week and need to deal with commuter traffic either going or coming. He will also likely be cast into Nutcracker and have rehearsals both weekend days. We are familiar with TWSB and the pre-ballet coed classes are once a week, and there is a boys-only class on a second day as well. Once he advances to the graded classes (1A, 1B, 2 etc) classes will be twice a week and a third class for boys only. Commuting will be a huge factor. Both programs are excellent btw and if he sicks with it you can decide whether changing studios makes sense.
