MS Magnet Decisions

Anonymous
I know that mailings for the magnet middle school decision is coming out soon. Does anyone know when decisions were made by the selection committee? We recently started the 504 process for DD and was surprised that there is a "504" icon on her record when we log into DD's MyMCPS website although the 504 plan has not even been finalized. We intentionally waited until later to initiate the 504 as we did not want it to factor into the decision making process for the magnet, but in thinking about it, we are not sure when the selection committee reviewed kids' records/scores to finalize decision making. Does anyone know the timeline? I thought I read somewhere that decisions were already made by December (and mailings done in Jan) but now I don't remember where I read it or if I am somehow mis-remembering.

Do not panic. My child has IEP and got accepted from MS magnet into HS magnet in the first wave. (Flying on Math wave...)
I believe they actually want capable IEP and 504 kids in magnets to show equal opportunities.

OP here. As strange as this might sound, we actually don't want MCPS to consider DD base on equal opportunities for this. That is partially why we waited longer to initiate the 504 process.

When are school administrators/teacher notified of the results, or do they not get the results until after the parents?

Wouldn't it be illegal for the 504 to be counted against someone?

From what I am told, a 504 likely does not do much of anything. But what is said and what is implemented is not always the same.

Where did you find the "504" icon? One of my kids has a 504, and the other has an IEP, but I can't find any indication of either on the myMCPS website.

If you use chrome, it is in the lower right hand corner when you first log into the portal.

If I ever get my 80's cover band together, I'm going to call it Furloughed Fed.

I'm using chrome and still don't see it. Are you in the Portal or Classroom?

I see the 504 for that kid, but there's no IEP icon for the other kid. I suppose they only note the 504?
