At-home puppy training

Anonymous
Does anyone have any recos for at-home trainers for puppies? Ours incessantly wants to bite our hands despite giving him toys. Nothing works. Help!

Do you yell “OUCH!” every time he bites— yell loud enough to startle and show that he hurt you? That’s always worked for me in training puppies. They learn quickly not to bite.

We just signed up with Bark Busters (NoVa). He was referred by two friends with puppies ànd has a ton of good reviews. I'll know more in a few weeks.

Yes, we do this every time. He does not seem to care. He kind of just looks at us for a second and then gets right back at biting.

We are looking at Bark Busters as well ... Just nervous with the mixed online reviews.

New poster. What age could we expect a puppy to bite less?

Where are you located? I did Paw by Paw training in Potomac. It was a mixture of in-home training as well as class training

Did you meet the trainer before you signed up? I am trying to see if the trainer in our area will at least come meet our puppy, but so far they will only do that if we then have a session (which means we have to sign up and pay). This trainer has good reviews, but it's a lot of money so I would rather meet her first.

This works.
Puppy milk teeth are sharp.
The mouthing (it's not biting unless it's breaking the skin) is normal.

Resist pulling away as this encourages the nipping.
Double down by squeezing the jaw or pushing your hand further into the mouth to create a gag reflex.
If you can't do this then yelp, followed by a strong "no." then ignore puppy for 10-15 minutes, crating if necessary.
