Let's all accept that everyone is going to have their own opinion, schools will work for some not others, each kid/family has legitimate needs and wants, and that we end up spread all over the city at different schools. No school is perfect, but there are lots of good things happening at DCPS and charters across the city.
So given the above, can we share what we like about the school we're in? Let's focus on positive things that can help families in the lottery feel good about the schools they will ultimately get into! I'll start. We are an ITS family and I've really been impressed with how the teachers have helped DC incorporate interests into current lesson plans. DC likes coming up with unique ideas. The teachers have embraced that and helped DC fit those ideas into the structure of what the rest of the class is learning. I really like that the teachers recognize there are multiple ways for kids to get to the same learning end point. |
| I so dislike when people say "we're a Schoolname Family". You might as well say you're a Lottery Winner Family. |
| Also add your child's grade. Hindsight having a 3rd grader has made me reconsider what I thought was important with a 2.5 year old. |
| We love Hardy! Principal Cooke’s energy and a commitment to serving all kids are one of the many reasons we love sending our kid there. |
| ^^^are some of the many reasons |
| We love the teachers and warm nurturing environment at Breakthrough Montessori. DC is learning a ton and is so happy there! |
| 3rd grader at sela. Love the other families -- kind, welcoming. Love the language immersion model. Love the location. Love the academic balance. |
| We love Deal. Teachers are great and our kids are learning a ton. |
Yes. They are saying that. |
| Hearst is awesome. |
| The teachers at Maury are wonderful. DS has had strong veteran teachers and we are grateful for their 20+ years of experience. |
No they're not. That's just foolish. I say "we're a <our neighborhood DCPS name> family," and we were not lottery winners. Get over yourself. Also, to the person who posted the initial comment, way to be "That Guy" who is not only the first person to comment on a thread, but also the first one with a super negative comment on a thread that was meant to be positive. Congrats -- You're miserable! |
Ive heard great things about Sela...just curious to know what your plans are for middle school if you keep DC there.? |
| Parent at CMI and love how culturally aware my kids are becoming (PK3). They just learned about Hanukkah, Christmas, Diwali, etc. |
| Middle school parent at ITS. We love the teachers. Love that my kid loves being a middle school student where he feels valued, sense of community, responsibility, and loved for being himself. Love that he’s challenged and praised where needed. Love that all the adults know who he is. Love that the new principal is thoughtful and deeply cares about our kids. I love the building manager. There is so much more, but that’s what comes to mind. Nice thread! |
