Greenbrier vs. Homestead

Which would be most enjoyable for a weekend getaway in January? Haven't stayed at either, but wanted to stay somewhere that wasn't too hard to get to with activities, decent food and wine. Would just be me and DH for my birthday weekend. Prices at both for a weekend seem to be similar although the Greenbrier is running some sort of holiday weekend special through March. Feedback welcome!

Without kids, I think Greenbrier is a better fit. I’ve been to the Homestead in January and it was great. I went with kids and we really enjoyed the ski hill and pools.

Before I visited both, I heard one was where you took your wife and the other one was where you took mistress.

Now which is which?

Greenbrier for sure. Homestead is fine if you have kids but it’s really run down. Greenbrier is much much nicer

Much more to do at the Greenbrier, the "bunker" tour, grounds tours and indoor tours, many more restaurants, ice skating, more shops (outside the hotel), and a casino if you care for that sort of thing (I don't).

Haven’t been to greenbriar but Homestead is crawling with kids. Crawling.

Greenbriar has a casino! It wasn't Vegas obviously but it was fun.

Homestead is worn down, food was downright awful last time I went (2013). The activities were good - shooting, falconry, paintball, swimming. Spa was ok but not out of this world. Town is SMALL so there is not much to do or see and not many restaurants that are not hotel owned, so no way to get better or adequate for the price food unless you drive. Nearby hot spring is cool.

Greenbriers sounds cool.

Homestead is very run down. And not even value prices.

Shame these grand old places are not economical to run in this era.

Cant go wrong with either but if you plan on skiiing go to the Honestead since skiing is on the property. Homestead is a smaller resort so you may want to go to Greenbriar since its peak season.
