Gift giving is not a competitive event

Anonymous
Just a vent. One grandparent not only thinks gift giving is a competitive event, but openly says so and like to gloat about how they are the best gift giver. "I won Christmas!" was said multiple times. We do our best to not respond, or say things like "everyone gave wonderful gifts." But it is relentless and really off-putting. "I got Larlo the most stuff!" "Larlo gets the best presents from me!" And many of the gifts are things that we had explicitly said please do not give Larlo those things (far various reasons).

I know, I know, be thankful and at least this grandparent is involved and blah blah blah.

It is sad when people behave this way. So much for teaching kids to value the people more than the gifts. Good for you for ng your kids how adults behave. I would have said that too.

Well, you do you, but I would have no problem shutting that down quickly. Unless it was said in a silly, tongue-in-cheek manner. But seriously, no.

Depending on the situation I might have been tempted to say "yeah, and it's all going to Goodwill tomorrow because we specifically asked you NOT to give these items and we meant it."
