So do I need to have sex tonight?

Anonymous
You would think I could figure this out by now, with all I've read and been through. But it has been awhile since I read TCOYF and monitored my cycle.

Today is day 15. I've been using ovulation test strips and yesterday morning (Wednesday) I got a darker line, but not as dark as the test line. I thought that meant that my surge was about to come and that I would have a very dark line today. But today's line was pretty light, probably lighter than on Tuesday morning. So I think that I already surged - either Tuesday evening before the darker line or yesterday afternoon after the darker line.

We had sex on Sunday and Tuesday (days 11 and 13). Obviously, if the surge was on Tuesday evening I'm covered, but if it was on Wednesday afternoon I'm less sure.

I really don't want to have sex (see the "I'm tired of having sex" thread - plus we have a house guest).

Not that I have been successful in months of trying, but I call the "almost as dark as" line a positive, especially if the next day is lighter. I can feel for you in the not wanting to have sex tonight. I'd pass because I think your timing earlier in the week was before O, and tonight would be after O, and the litte swimmers tonight have missed the egg.

I think it couldn't hurt to have sex again, but I do think Tuesday night's should have covered you. My guess is you ovulated yesterday.

Thanks! Yes, usually I say it couldn't hurt, but I've spent far too many months feeling like we "need to." Plus, between my sister in town and my DS not going to sleep too early these days, it would be a PIA to stay up late enough until everyone is asleep . . . .

Do you TTC every other day during your ovulation window (day 10-20)? Is that really better than everyday?

I have a pretty regular 27-28 day cycle, and my OB recommended every other day between days 10 and 20.

ANyone know why every other day? Save up sperm?

I think for most people every other day is plenty. The sperm hang around waiting (especially if you have good cervical mucous). And some men have sperm issues and need more time to rebuild (though that's rare). Also, some men have trouble performing every day. However, in my research, it definitely shows that the more you have sex right before ovulation, the better your chances for pregnancy. So if you know you're ovulating in 2-3 days, you should do it all those days, if you can.
