What shoes do you wear for casual, day-to-day (not work) purposes?

I'm the one who just threw away Dansko clogs (see other thread). I am looking for a comfortable alternative, and would like a bit of a heel (no sneaker-style shoes) because I am short, not thin, and wear boot-cut pants and jeans.

I'm the one looking at the Dansko clogs! I've been living in various ballet flats for the past few years. I also want something with a bit more of a heel, but comfortable (hence the attraction to the clogs). Some of the short boots look good, but I'd have to try them out first.

In the winter, Cole-Haan loafers and boots, Tory Burch low heels, and a few pairs of flats.
In the summer, some nice sandals - this year I had Ferragamo, Stuart Weitzman, and some no-name ones that were cute.

I always like a nice pair of loafers-- something with a bit of a heel and a long tongue on top during the winter. (The longer tongue covers socks.)

(PP here.) I don't love either of these particular shoes, but something with this general shape. I had a pair similar to the first example but was in black patent crocodile with a cute buckle, and I wore them into the ground. So sad when they finally died.

And I'm the one who suggested Frye boots. I got these a month ago & can see my future living in them! They look great under boot cut jeans and with long skirts.

Love those Frye boots. Those are a lot more current than the Zappos link the PP posted (sorry). The big shoe/chunky heel just seems dated to me. I think it would be more flattering to just choose a true flat than a chunky heel like that (unless it's on a boot). You'd look a lot more stylish.

I have these Paul Green shoes (bought them several years ago) and wear them with jeans, slacks etc. They are really comfortable!

I also love my Frye boots in the fall and winter. I have the Campus style in saddle.

Merrell makes some comfy shoes that aren't quite as clunky as the clogs (although I <3 my Merrell fleece-lined suede clogs). They are good for the playground and running errands. Have a bit more height than flats so longer jeans don't drag and allow one to wear warm socks.

Some might scoff at them for not being fashionable enough, but I can play with my kid, walk a few miles with the family, shop all day....with no pain. I scoff at those who wear what I consider to be inappropriate footwear for family activities.

I also highly recommend boots such as Frye's. Dansko makes some boots that aren't too clunky, too. And I have a pair of ankle boots from Easy Spirit (every now and then they hit the mark on style AND comfort) that are quite cute and go great with jeans or black pants.

I agree with Frye as well. I have the 8R engineer boots and they are sooooo comfy!

I also love Keen. I am not sure how much heel any of them have...but they have quite a few styles and are super comfortable too. I own a pair of the hiking shoes, 2 pairs of the sneakers and a pair of the water shoes. They also have some boots and casual shoes as well....and many color options!

Go to a really nice store and browse. If you can't buy from there, take your visuals with you and find something similar somewhere else.

I wear boots with heels from a variety of brands at different price points. 2-3 inch heels are quite comfortable for me as long as the sole is flexible and there's a little cushioning on the bottom. I live centrally in DC and don't drive regularly, so yes, I'm usually on my feet for hours without a problem, except that my shoes wear out quickly. I replace heel tips at least once a month and avoid pointy toes because the sole tips wear out so quickly.

I'm looking at some Born mary jane-type styles; they have several different ones. I like Born shoes for decent-looking casual wear. Question (and sorry if it's a hijack): Can you wear a mary jane with socks? I don't know if I've ever noticed that.
