My husband and I work from home and we are looking to hire a mother's helper to come watch and play with our toddler during the day. We live in Silver Spring. Any ideas where we can go about finding one? |
Neighbors. The closer the better. 11-13 is the deer spot for mother’s helpers. |
A mother's helper is usually 12/13 years old and can come after school. Is that what you're talking about?
If so, I found mine by catching her on her walk home from school. "Do you babysit?" "No but I want to!" "Great you're hired!" ![]() |
I don’t think a mother’s helper provides childcare while you are working (from home shouldn’t matter, should it?) it sounds like you need a nanny. |

For middle of the day, contact your local homeschooling group.
For after school, put up a notice in your listserv or here, either in teen/preteen or in the babysitting portion of the nanny forum. |
I posted a flyer at the middle school bus stop in my development. Taped it to the stop sign saying "text me if you want 20 bucks" basically. I have 2 girls. They come over on the days they don't have activities. One comes Thursdays and one comes Monday/ Wednesday. They stay from 3:45 to 5:45. I usually bathe the baby (I just wasn't getting this done during the bedtime slot so this works better for me) and then do homework with my oldest and get dinner going. She keeps my middle one occupied and happy and will also play with my oldest before I grab him for his math/reading. Best 60 bucks a week I spend. |
