Anyone know of a tread mill that will work for me? I just want to walk while watching TV at night. I won't be running on it. I do the 30 day shred when I want a good work out. I prefer a tread mill that will fold up. I search online and saw the Horizon Evolve for $500. Is that a good one? Any others?

| For just walking, you can go cheap. I got mine last year at Walmart for about $300, it is very basic and folds up. It is pretty noisy for TV watching, so I use headphones and run an extension cord from the TV so the TV isn't set at ear-blasting levels. |

Avoid Nordic Track like the plague. I'm not sure if they make any treadmills in your price range, but I had one that I got at Sears for about $1400 a few years ago. I started having problems within a year or two- it would suddenly lose power in the middle of a run. I called NT for service and they asked if I'd been unplugging it after each use. Huh? Why would I do that? Turns out that it's in the owners manual, and you're supposed to do that- to all of the models, I believe. Surge protector isn't enough to prevent electricity build up. Whatever. It was still under warranty so I got it fixed for free, but wtf wants a piece of workout equipment that you have to unplug after each use? So no more NTs for me.
Juxtapose that against my Proform I got for $500 from now defunct service merchandise. It rarely had problems, but when it did, the customer service from Proform was awesome. The part to fix it cost about $30 and I could fix it myself. The part they sent me didn't work for some reason, so they sent me another one. For free. The thing was about 8 years old and way out of warranty by that time. I have no idea why I got a NT instead of another Proform when I replaced it after almost 10 years of use. Check craigslist. I often see ones there- for free even- but so many people buy them and barely use them, that I bet you could get a great one for next to nothing. Where I used to live, there was a place called play it again sports that sold used sports equipment. Check for something similar here. |
