DC Attorney General first to sue Facebook

Anonymous
DC Attorney General Karl Racine became the first attorney general in the country to sue Facebook, alleging that it “failed to protect the privacy of its users” in the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Racine said in a statement that the company also deceived users “about who had access to their data and how it was used.”

Excellent work, Mr. Racine, and shall we say, way to "Lean in"! It's noteworthy that Facebook executives were too distracted to "lean in" when the Russians were exploiting Facebook to help Trump steal the election. But Racine should be careful, lest Facebook try to discredit him also, by hinting darkly that he's in league with George Soros.

Bravo. This is what government is for - making sure that we are protected from rapacious capitalism.

I'm sorry that Sheryl Sandberg lost her spouse a couple of years ago. But the fact is that she spent too much time in the last several years promoting her personal brand and not minding the store and "leaning in" in her day job. The way that she responded to Facebook's challenges after the 2016 election is appalling. Facebook is over. They just don't know it yet.

Well this is quite a development:

10 bucks says a lot of dark money flowing to conservative causes has been coming from Zuck and Facebook. The entire point of dark money is to hide the source so the public won't boycott the businesses involved.

I think it's just a matter of time until we have "Dark Money Leaks" by hackers and data dumpers

This is really something by AG Racine to put this point blank in a Tweet:

Finally, something that the right and left can agree on.

The GOP pretends to hate Facebook/social media, but it's actually their biggest asset to spread their message. The top 10 posts on Facebook every month for the past few years have been by rightwing or right-adjacent content creators. Researchers have found that Facebook prioritizes rightwing messaging over others and allows rightwing content creators to violate Facebook's own rules without penalty.

It's all happening in plain sight but you'd never guess that based on the victim-messaging the right spews about social media.

I can’t speak for the GOP, but I’m conservative and I hate Facebook.

+1 That’s why they work the ref; it keeps their idiots bleating about the corporate media being “liberal media” and keeps the corporate media always trying to placate the toothless mob.

Sigh. Those are personal donations from the employees of those companies, not donations from the actual corporations. Of course young people living in places like Seattle and Silicon Valley are going to be donating to Biden over Trump.

Facebook's lobbyists are far more likely to come from the Dem side of the aisle than the R:

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2019/nov/20/dozens-of-facebook-lobbyists-tied-to-members-of-congress-investigation-shows

And it's not just young staffers donating to Dems. It's almost 90 percent of FB's workforce, plus a lot of their soft money orgs, etc:

https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/facebook-inc/totals?id=D000033563

And the DNC also spends plenty of money on Facebook ads:

But by all means, sigh and pretend that it's all just big bad Republicans.
