DCUM is a great service, but I've been wondering lately if it is too fragmented at this point.
I understand the thoughts behind all the specific forums (and see the requests in this section for some of them) - but sometimes it seems counterproductive. Two examples about what I am talking about: 1. I have posted on the Schools Board asking questions about parents' experiences with certain schools, but it seems to be primarily frequented by people looking to get their children into schools rather than people with children already in schools. 2. I feel bad for the people in the TTC forum (even though I see in this section that the forum was asked for) because their posts are sequestered away in a separate section where people like me (who have already successfully dealt with TTC issues and could probably answer their questions) don't go. My thought about this was the possibility of being able to cross-post between specific forums and the general parenting one - but likely that would become rather cumbersome. Other thought is maybe to put the question out there to see if others have ideas about the benefits or lack thereof of this degree of fragmentation? Thanks for all your work for DCUM! |
