okay so.. there is this article that stays clearly that the
nasal spray makes you a carrier of a flu virus for 21 days. see reference below: so .. if this is such a brilliant idea to inoculate kids at school and other people by giving the mist that makes people active carriers who shade the virus to hundreds of others without warning what is the brilliant concept really? first of all nobody who had been "misted" has to wear any sticker or sign that he is active carrier giving a chance to people who CANT get vaccinated due to the low supply of vaccine, even if they wanted to.. now are just plain exposed in public places to people who chose to get a mist. something is wrong with this system. how to find greater good in spreading virus that way? I struggle here. see the article: H1N1 FluMist ~ the Nasal Spray that Keeps on Giving! http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2205843/h1n1_flumist_the_nasal_spray_that_keeps.html?singlepage=true&cat=70 |

I think that article is full of misleading and incorrect information. From the CDC website:
Can people receiving the nasal-spray flu vaccine LAIV (FluMistĀ®) pass the vaccine viruses to others? In clinical studies, transmission of vaccine viruses to close contacts has occurred only rarely. The current estimated risk of getting infected with vaccine virus after close contact with a person vaccinated with the nasal-spray flu vaccine is low (0.6%-2.4%). Because the viruses are weakened, infection is unlikely to result in influenza illness symptoms since the vaccine viruses have not been shown to mutate into typical or naturally occurring influenza viruses. Can the nasal spray flu vaccine give you the flu? Unlike the flu shot, the nasal spray flu vaccine does contain live viruses. However, the viruses are attenuated (weakened) and cannot cause flu illness. The weakened viruses are cold-adapted, which means they are designed to only cause infection at the cooler temperatures found within the nose. The viruses cannot infect the lungs or other areas where warmer temperatures exist. Some children and young adults 2-17 years of age have reported experiencing mild reactions after receiving nasal spray flu vaccine, including runny nose, nasal congestion or cough, chills, tiredness/weakness, sore throat and headache. Some adults 18-49 years of age have reported runny nose or nasal congestion, cough, chills, tiredness/weakness, sore throat and headache. These side effects are mild and short-lasting, especially when compared to symptoms of influenza infection. |
| 16:24 is spot-on. The virus that misted people MIGHT possibly transmit is NOT the scary H1N1 we've all come to fear. It is a WEAKENED version of H1N1. So actually it might be good if a "misted" kid spread a little weakened H1N1 around school.... |

oh really? CDC stated that?
how interesting?! since we are all smart people here let's just do more research and compare CDC's notes... let's just go and take a look at the official site of the FLU MIST.. and there on the bottom is link to their official product information.. and just follow the link and go to the point 14.5 Transmission study and there it states clearly: shading period 21 days.. Please see the accompanying complete Product Information [PDF, 103KB, 4 Pages]. http://www.medimmune.com/pdf/products/flumist_pi.pdf well.. as Einstein's once said.. everything is relative.. in this case depends where you look. stay healthy, Peace. |

oh the above link also states in pt. 11
that it IS a LIVE VACCINE btw.. and also it said in other places of their official brochure that it is not recommended for people with asthma and children under 2 years of age as it does increase hospitalization.. so.. turns that best thing to do it is to read an info provided by Flumist and then just see and compare CDC notes.. |

OK, barely literate PP, I *did* go read the FluMist insert, and it says exactly the same thing as the CDC.
Both say the FluMist contains live, attenuated (weakened) virus. Both say the chances of being infected with virus as a result of being around someone who got FluMist are low (0.6%-2.4%). And that being "infected with virus" and actually having symptoms are not the same thing. And the FluMist materials do NOT say the "shading period" -- I think you meant "shedding" -- is 21 days. It says that in their research they STUDIED potential shedding by examining cultured nasal swabs of their subjects for 21 days following their vaccination. TO EVERYONE ELSE WHO READS THIS -- Do not take this PP's word for anything. Or mine, frankly. Go read the CDC, go read the insert. All the data is there. And, yes, PP, it matches. And to everybody in the universe -- "Associated Content" articles are written by anybody about anything. I could go write an article about how there's an alien next to me on the couch right now and get it published on Associated Content as "Helpful Facts About Aliens." No fact-checking, no credential-checking, no bias control, nothing. Just because it sounds like "Associated Press," which is an actual news organization, please do not be misled into thinking its content is vetted, screened, or in some cases even remotely factual. |
