Infertility Support and Discussion
I just came off the pill and told my gyno that I'm going to start TTC. I was told to start taking prenatals. I already take a centrum multivitamin everyday and will switch to prenatals once I actually get pregnant. Is that ok? Doc said it it was ok, but I was reading that Centrum doesn't have enough folic acid.
you can add a folic acid supplement too. Most prenatals have 800mg
When I was pregnant with my son 3 years ago my OBs were fine with my only taking regular multi-vitamins. They've up the folic acid recommendation since then, but many non-prenatal multis have 800 now. I actually think 400 is fine if you're eating a good diet (e.g. lots of whole grains, salads, greens and other veggies). I think they upped the recommendation to 800 just to be safe, because so many Americans have horrible diets.
