| Went to the open house last night and thought the school sounded like a pretty good fit for us. DS has the numbers to get to the test etc. What I'm not sure of is do students like the experience? There weren't any students to talk to so I didn't get a good feeling of if students are happy/challenged there. Is the curriculum really that challenging or is it a really good school and the bar is set so low at other DCPS HS that SWW seems rigorous? Anyone BTDT who can chime in? |
| Just to you know, the bar is not set "so low" at other DCPS HS. Ask any junior at Wilson who is taking 5 APs. Focus on finding out if Walls is a fit for you before dumping on other high schools. |

SWW is perceived as more rigorous because the students tend to be strivers - not necessarily bad. The kids put a fair amount of pressure on themselves and each other. The curriculum, while it has science and math, has a humanities bent. PP is right that Wilson has rigor; in fact it offers more AP classes.
There are equally bright and committed students at a host of schools including Banneker and even McKinley which has a 2018 graduate now attending Stanford. |
Wilson isn't an option for everyone |
Doesn't matter--OP's dig at other high schools is obnoxious. S/he could have just asked if anyone had kids at Walls and what they thought about the program's rigor and whether their kids liked it. |
| OP here. Its so hard to word a question on here without offending someone. So is there anyone with an experience at Walls? |
Applications aren't due until February. I'd have this thread deleted and ask again in a week or ten days. Or just search the archives because this question comes up literally every year. |
