| LOL. WTF! |
| Newhouse is one of the best programs in the nation for journalism, communication, etc. Worth every penny. Other majors maybe not. |
| Maybe a good program but certainly better for less and not in God-forsaken Syracuse. |
*shrug* I’m not sure why you care. |
| So there majors are a con? |
English, please. |

You asked for advice, OP.
Syracuse is a terrible city. The program may be good but your kid has to live there. Put down the wine bottle. |
| Newhouse. Otherwise, Syracuse is a big NOPE. But, many schools are like this. Certain programs are worth it. |
| The is the cost for most private colleges/universities. |

If you are full pay, but have 75th%ile stats, you will likely qualify for merit aid.
Of course, if you have only the stats your merit aid might be $10k but if you have a hook or solid extracurriculars you could see $20 or $30k. Schools like Syracuse have to discount the sticker price to bring in students that are better than solid. |

I went to Syracuse University and LOVED it! I had an excellent education. Obviously you do not choose to go here for the city of Syracuse. People have different preferences and reasons for why they choose a particular school.
Syracuse University was my very first choice because it is large, relatively self-contained campus-based, fun, social, sports-oriented (Carrier Dome) and tons of school spirit. For me, If I had wanted a great city school then I would have chosen a place like NYU, but that is not my scene. |
* and no one goes to Syracuse for the urban life. There's tons to do outside, and some people like that. |
Not remotely true. |
| It is true with respect to the overwhelming majority of private colleges/universities regularly discussed on this board. |
