Dr.'s advice to avoid shedding?

Anonymous
Did anyone get any advice to avoid getting the flu from your child shedding the mist? I know pregnant women need to be especially careful. I assume don't cuddle for a while, but how long?Is shedding a possibility the first week or first day? My husband and I did not get vaccinated because we are not in the highest risk groups.

Some docs seem to be saying that it's a concern for pregnant women, but the CDC says it's no problem for pregnant women to be around people who got the mist.

http://www.cdc.gov/FLU/PROFESSIONALS/acip/specificpopulations.htm

under the heading "Pregnant Women" (LAIV=flumist) --
]LAIV is not licensed for use in pregnant women. However, pregnant women do not need to avoid contact with persons recently vaccinated with LAIV.

Also, read under the heading "Close Contacts of Immunocompromised Persons" to find out who should NOT be around people who recently got the flumist -- basically, you have to have a MAJOR immune disorder problem for this to be an issue.

If you are a healthy adult, please do not avoid cuddling your recently flu-misted children... there is absolutely no reason to do that.
