As a parent of an African American elementary school aged boy, I've read with interest and concern some of the posts about low expectations in DCPS, as well as similar posts about private schools. Obviously, this is very concerning to me. I wonder how the parents of black sons feel their children are treated in Montgomery County? |

I can't open the first post. Would you mind reposting? |
Sorry about that, I'm not sure why it wasn't showing up. I tried to google it again but didn't get any results. It's my understanding that Councilmember Ervin proposed a study of the disparities in educational outcomes for African American and other minority students in Montgomery County. Her original memo, that I tried to link, had much more detailed information about the disparities. But it has become an ongoing project in MoCo, called the Kennedy Cluster Project, that attempts to close the achievement gap. Here is another status update on it from 2007 that has some background information, again not as much as the original memo I linked. http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/content/council/pdf/agenda/cm/2007/071210/20071210_hhsed02.pdf |
This isn't MCPS specific, but you might search on PRX Mind the Gap-there is a report that might be of interest to you. |
