Town of Vienna to Crystal City Commute

Looks miserable by train, is it also bad by car? Wish we lived near the VRE but we don’t. Any tricks?

I’d post this on reddit/r/nova.

Also you can try slugging - free carpool system in Nova.

If your work schedule is adjustable, slide it later. I used to commute from Vienna to Rosslyn every day, but I worked 11am to 7pm. Even a 10am to 6pm schedule would be better. They changed those HOV times, so sliding earlier isn't necessarily the answer.

I commute from Rosslyn to College Park everyday now. I have to jump trains and take a bus a little bit. But I love it, because I don't pay for parking, it costs me $8ish round trip, and I can read and relax on the trip. Now that I figured out how to get from A to B.

I use Google Maps to figure out other public transit options. Like which bus to possibly hit. If you're going to spend more than an hour commuting anyway, why not relax with a book or check all your office email before you get in.

The great thing about changing trains in Rosslyn is that when you hop off going into town, to change trains, it's just a short escalator down to the other level, and you can easily glance over the rail and see what line you're looking at.

You can do it in 45 min easily if you have HOV.

Here is how you do it without HOV; it should be 45 minutes in the AM:

123 to route 7. 7 to west street in falls church. West to Lincoln. Stay straight on Lincoln -- it will be come Washington Blvd, which will take you to pentagon city. From there, Crystal city is just across route 1.

I use this to get to ballston; if I leave before 7:00 it takes me 25-30 minutes. Later, and it gets home.

Going home is more difficult. I usually just take 66 to Nutley and pay the $4 toll.

W&OD to Shirlington to the Four Mile Run Trail to the MVT.

About 15 miles, Google maps says it will take you 90 minutes, but lots of in shape cyclists can go a good bit faster than 10MPH. Or just get an Ebike, and do it in an hour or less.

Is it that bad on the train? Just take the orange line and change at Rosslyn no?

I am in the same boat. It's an hour and 15 minutes one way door-to-door for me. Ugh

Look into Lorton and Dunn Loring

I’ve done this a bunch and it is quick and easy - in the HOV. Not so much otherwise. I’d rather take metro than go surface streets.
