Thoughts on Arlington Science Focus?

Any parents with children who attend? Do you like it? The general culture, the academics, etc? What would you say are its strengths and weaknesses? We are debating between Arlington Science Focus and a private school - with a current leaning towards Arlington Science Focus.

Lots of homework, much of it busywork. Extensive homework is even assigned the day before Winter Break, due back a day or two after break is over. How much you and your child will like it depends, in part, on how well your child deals with an unusually heavy homework load. Otherwise, good school.

Arne Duncan, US Secretary of Education, sends his kid(s) there, if that means anything to you. I figure he could have sent his children to any public school in the DC metro area and he chose APS and specifically Science Focus.

And to PP, I have children in APS and it seems that all of the schools assign more homework than seems necessary. Most start homework in kindergarten and it gets more intense as you rise towards 5th grade.

This is the OP. Thanks for your thoughts. How have your experiences been with the teachers and administration? Are they responsive to parents? Do your children like their teachers? Are they excited to go to school? Is discipline handled fairly/properly?
