Noise Cancelling Headphones

We are thinking of getting noise cancelling headphones for our DD with ASD. She seems to have a lot of trouble participating in family activities when the surroundings are noisy and chaotic, although she really wants to participate. Are they all the same - can I just buy a pair on Amazon? Or, is ther a particular brand that is most effective for HFA kids. Not to listen to music. To wear to the mall, her sisters instrumental music concert, etc.

To completely block out noise? We got cheap ones on Amazon that were meant for a gun range. (They were about $15.) They pretty much block out all sound. My kid used them to take tests. You might hear some noise if it was very loud like a concert.

Thank you! No I don’t want it to block out all noise, just muffle it enough so she’s not overstimulated. Sounds like the cheap amazon ones will do!

We use the hunting muffs too and have for years. DS wears them daily on the special ed bus that he rides for a total of 3 1/2 hours a day! They keep him calm and he can sleep or read and not come home a mess. I’ve worn them occasionally and find them good because you can hear if someone speaks to you but the rest of noise is quite filled. They allow for some excellent naps on the long drive to grandmas house!

Great idea OP. My ds does not have autism but has other diagnosis' and on Thanksgiving with just 3 guests, he said his brain was going crazy and needed a break. I am going to look into noise canceling headphones as well.

We bought the Peltor brand headphones, kid size. Our kids have worn them to concerts and they seem to work well. Seem to filter noise and deaden loud sounds.
