I just finished The Last Black Unicorn and just loved it. Listening to Tiffany Haddish was great and I don't think I'd enjoy the book as much reading it. What are other books that have great readers or are great to listen to? My kids just finished listening to the Harry Potter series and that reader was amazing. TIA! |

Memoirs read by the author/subject are usually great. My favorites:
Bossypants - Tina Fey is HILARIOUS, and there's nothing like hearing it in her own voice. I didn't like the memoirs of Amy Poehler or Mindy Kaling nearly as much, but YMMV. Becoming - Nothing like hearing it read by Michelle O herself! I espeically loved the first 2/3, but thought the FLOTUS part was a bit dull. Probably because we all lived it with her so recently. Be sure to check your local library website -- most offer audiobook downloads for free. I put the bestsellers on hold (they get downloaded automatically once available) and browse whatever else is available. I've listened to a bunch of great books that way, and conversely, I never feel badly when I give up on an audiobook after 15 minutes because I don't like the reader's voice. |
I like the David McCollough books - I listed to the Brooklyn Bridge one. |
The Book of Joan. I don't even know if I liked the book, but the reader was amazing. |
Me Talk Pretty One Day, by David Sedaris. Really all of his books are best heard out loud. |
If you like mysteries, HIGHLY recommend the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny. The reader is one of the best I’ve heard. |
I loved "Disaster Artist" OMG. So quirky and cool. I also loved comedic audiobooks read by the authors like Tina Fey, Amy Schumer, Chelsea Handler, Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling.

Debbie Macomber. She writes books that are more geared toward older women. As in a typical plot might be recently widowed woman decides to take up knitting and makes new friends through knitting classes.
Usually I just listen to her books, but a couple months ago I decided to actually read one and I found it just slogged. I decided her books were best to just listen to while I am doing yard work or housework or something. |
+100000 He reads them himself and they are hilarious. The inflection...so funny. |
I exclusively listen to audio books now (I do a lot of driving). I have enjoyed:
Little Fires Everywhere Eleanor Oliphant Man Called Ove |
Three books I have loved on audiobook are:
A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gaines Angle of Repose and Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner |
Jeremy Irons - The Alchemist. What a wonderful voice. |
