Embassy Row Child Development Center

Does anyone have any experience with this facility? Their hours are 6:30am - 6:30pm which is very appealing, as DH and I get to work early and are usually out by 3:30. Haven't heard much talk of them on this board, though I think they are somewhat new. Thanks in advance for any insight.

We started there but then switched. One of the reasons was that the teachers didn't take the kids out regularly.

We started there too and took our baby out after a month. She refused to eat while she was there and the kids were always crying so she was too. I have no idea how any of the babies managed to nap but some did. Mine didn’t. The rooois also ver small so there is not much space for crawling although they sometimes take them to the sanctuary where there is more room. With so many babies in the infant room I felt like they were spending most of their time changing, feeding, attending to basic needs but without leaving any time to play or interact with the babies to further their development.

I was at the playground once and saw the staff purposely leave one of the kids in the stroller the whole time. Not sure why she wasn’t allowed out but also they didn’t stay with her or anything. I also didn’t feel like they had a very careful eye on the rest of the kids either.

That's heartbreaking. I wonder if reporting this to the director would change anything.

Bump. We are considering the Embassy Row CDC, but after reading these comments I wonder if we should! I understand they have part-time options. Has anyone used it?

We are in our 3rd week there. It has been a bit up and down. I've had incredibly warm, positive interactions with the staff/teachers and others that have left me feeling really cold. What we liked most about it when we were touring daycares was that they seemed really community-oriented; all the kids were from the neighborhood, and they have regular parent/community engagement events (versus the others that seemed more centered around offices/downtown so colder). They send regular updates through the Kinderlime app. But they don't seem 100% on top of their game organizationally, and I haven't seen much yet that has impressed me in terms of developmental exercises. The problem is I really have no baseline to compare this to--my son is 4 months, so maybe this is normal?

Why risk it?

I have my 4 month old there and agree that the staff is very warm. They’ve been welcoming to me and my child. I admit when I first visited I was a little concerned about the size of the room but I’ve noticed how they make “stations” and three times I’ve come to pick the baby up during nap time or quiet time, it’s been super chill and quiet. I was impressed by that— that was by biggest worry.
I don’t expect them to have one on one with the kids that often, but in the three weeks we’ve been there, I feel like my LO has started to advance in different noble areas (roll over, etc).
Agree they can work on their organizational skills... but in dealing with two other different daycares, this seems to a trend. I appreciate the multiple updates on how LO is doing and pictures.
I had to look at this as a trade off... my LO wasn’t going to get 1-on-1 care or the Montessori curriculum (or whatever) or anything... but LO is safe and is being attended to like they should and the staff I interact with really care about the kids.

Not long term. She stayed for a day at one near hubby’s job (drop in) and stayed for a day on a base where I work for drop in as well while I was on mat leave due to schedule conflicts.

Same mom here--have been here a year now and LOVE it. Note that I never had any concerns about safety, and I also had a brand new kid (first time mom), so some of my previous concerns were just basic inexperience. The teaching staff was always wonderful and very caring, but there were definitely organizational issues at first. They re-org'ed completely, have all new management, and the place has really turned around. Our son has thrived! They are of course closed down now (since mid-March) due to the COVID-19 crisis, as they should be. But we cannot wait for him to go back! He absolutely loved his teachers in the infant classroom, who treated us like family; he had just entered the toddler room at the beginning of 2020, and he had been coming home everyday with new skills, greater interactivity, and very evident growth and development on a nearly weekly basis. We miss you, ERCDC!

Anyone returning to Embassy Row? We're considering it and wonder what the experience is like now.

My 2.5-year-old son started attending in February 2020, and with him going there for a month (before shut down), I've seen tremendous growth, especially with his social skills. I didn't have experience with the old management but when we got on, they were really organized. We haven't returned yet because I'm still on maternity leave with my second, but they've reopened now. I see regular posts on their Facebook and their website about what they're doing. They seem to be adapting well to this crisis. I'm looking to enroll my kids after maternity leave because they offer a sibling discount!

I am puzzled why they have space in all classrooms, while nearby centers are at full capacity with long waitlist.
