Tomorrow night, I have to go to the Kennedy Center for a dinner honoring one of my Dh's most important clients and to see a play (I think it's Streetcar Named Desire??). I don't really know the details, sorry, but I know it's not just me and Dh, we will be with a group and sitting at a table of 12 for dinner.
Anyway, we have to be there at 5:15 and the dress is "business attire." Dh will be in a suit. I'll be meeting him there, coming straight from work, so thought I would wear a simple black dress, nice jewelry, and black boots with a heel. Well, conveniently, I kicked the leg of our sofa so hard last night that I'm pretty sure I broke my toe. I broke a toe on the other foot several years ago and this is similar - it is purple and very swollen, and I'm hobbling around the office in my sneakers today. Getting here on the metro was grueling as it hurts to walk on it and I'm moving about as fast as a 90-yr old woman. I don't know if I can possibly wear my boots tomorrow, or any kind of a heel or any appropriate-looking shoe at all! I only own one pair of flats and they're not black, they're sort of a bronze/brown color and they're not very dressy. I don't really have time to go buy something (and understandably, I'm not in much of a shoe-shopping mood today!) Any suggestions? |
| sounds like a doozy. i would almost think it's better to go the all-out "I broke my toe" route... do they put it in a cast? brace? because it would be easier to make it obvious that you have a broken bone issue than to wear casual shoes that make it seem like you are just clueless. |
Good idea, pp. OP, can you borrow a cane for the evening? |

Hmmm. I was thinking of trying something like that.
For a broken toe, they just tape it to the toe next to it. So there's not really a boot or cast or anything obvious. I think we have crutches in the basement - maybe I could use those? I feel sort of silly exaggerating the injury since I can limp around without a crutch, but I also don't want to look like an idiot who's wearing sneakers for no reason! |
| CVS sells ace bandages and the like. I'd wrap your foot up good (and noticeably) and put a nice shoe on the other foot. |
| Oh, and you're incredibly lucky to be seeing "Streetcar"! Cate Blanchett is playing Blanche and it's getting rave reviews. See today's Post for little tidbits you can drop into the conversation. |
| Thanks for the link, 13:11 - now I'm more excited about going! Just wish my stupid foot would cooperate! |
