What did you do when found out teen using weed? Did it work?

We are newly aware that our 15 year old son is using weed. We are looking for advice on how best to approach with him and what others have done that proved effective. And how did you know it was effective? Did you drug test etc? Thank you

I gave him a stern lecture about the risks, and let him know I strongly disapproved. That's it.

Did it stop him from smoking weed? I don't think so. But he kept it to a minimum, I am 99.99% certain he never drove while high, and it did not affect his academic performance or keep him from work or extracurriculars.

What's your kid like, OP? I am hoping mine want careers that need security clearances so I can threaten them with that even though it probably wouldn't matter. lol

You could give him actual info on what it does to their brain, sperm, etc. I would keep major tabs on him for 6 months, not giving him opportunity to do it at all. 15 is YOUNG. It's not like he's 18 and off to college soon. If he's doing this at 15, he may be like some of my hs friends who were using acid, e, and coke before they were even seniors. Most of this was done after school before their parents came home.

this has been our experience, though DS is 14 and not driving or taking drivers Ed yet.

I focus on the risks of distraction from school, sport, and other aspects of his life that are his "job" right now, as well as how his dishonesty affects our relationship--now, and when he starts asking for the car keys. I hate to be a jerk but honesty and trust are so important to driving. at that point we may have to do drug testing.
