Do I need a power of attorney or what?

Anonymous
Going away with dh for 4 nights, and leaving dd with nanny and MIL.

What do I need for MIL other than all the insurance info and card, anything that allows her to make medical decisions for dd?

Thanks!

Check with your pediatrician to see if they have a form for you to sign. Ours has one online. You can also draft (or search the net for) a simple power of appointment for child's medical care - basically, authorize named agent (your MIL) to make medical decisions for your child, and sign in front of a notary.

Keep in mind that if your child is ever in an emergency situation, no one will wait around for consent - they'll just help your child.
