I've heard and seen a couple parents talk/post about schools that have banned running at recess because of liability isuses. But, I haven't been able to get an actual name. If you know of a school that has banned running at recess, would you please provide the name? There's so much misinformation out there and I would like to confirm this for myself. Thanks! |
What?!? News to me. Man, I hope it's just a rumor. |
I hope this is a suburban legend. |
OP here. That's what I'm trying to find out. I thought I'd start here but since I've gotten so few responses, I'll post on the General Discussion group where I've seen it come up before. |
I haven't heard about running at recess but our local school apparently doesn't want the kids to touch each other in any way at all. Good luck enforcing that! And I've read about some new elementary schools built in Atlanta w/o playgrounds (they were left out on purpose; not just b/c they lacked the funds). |
I was told that football was banned at recess for our MoCo elementary because it got too rough. I believe it and don't mind at all - it came up when I asked about the level of monitoring on the playground because I was breaking up fistfights under the play equipment during recess volunteer duty. But others might find that kind of a ban absurd. But banning running? Doesn't even sound possible... although perhaps at an overcrowded urban school with limited outdoor play space? |
Never heard of running being banned, but have heard of hugging being banned. |
As a teacher at a Fairfax school...
We try not to let the kids run on the playground equipment or blacktop because of how crowded they are (and they're always ramming their heads into each other by accident), but they can run on the whole field. As much as we try to enforce it, they still do it. |
