Is it particular high risk kids, kids under 2 or 5 (the CDC website identifies kids under 5 and particularly those under 2 as high risk generally for H1N1) ? I have a 16 month old and a almost 5 year old.
The older one has been coughing/sneezing for a few days and woke up a little under the weather (feeling cold) and progressed to a relatively low fever (101) over the course of the day. We got the H1N1 shots last Thursday and they had their seasonal flu shots 2 1/2 weeks ago, so I am assuming that if it is the flu it is H1N1. They are both very healthy kids, this is the older one's second real fever ever and the younger one has never had a real fever and they are both kids that have been in daycare since a relatively early age. I read somewhere on this board that they are only giving tamiflu to high risk kids. I know that my kids do not have an underlying health condition and are very much on the healthy end of the spectrum, so I would not want to take a limited supply of medication that is needed to protect kids with higher risks. That said, this flu seems to be hitting healthy kids very hard on occasion. Does anyone know how they assess which kids gets the tamiflu? |
