At what age will you ask your child to NOT go trick-or-treating because they are too old?

Just wondering. I'm thinking either the first year of Jr. High or the first year of high school.

I will never tell my child she is too old to go trick-or-treating as long as she is polite and wears a costume, but I'm sure she'll outgrow it on her own.

I will encourage my kids to stop but the time they are 10, but who knows - maybe they will outgrow it sooner or later. I noticed that older kids tend to go to Halloween parties instead of trick or treating. I honestly cringe when I see older kids tricker treating. I only think it is cute for young kids - then it isnt cute anymore, just plain old immature.

OP here. My parents never told me to stop, and when I went out (in costume) with a friend at the age of 15, I embarrassed myself because TWO of the houses had classmates that answered the door. Talk about embarrassing. My parents would have done me a favor if they had said "you're too old to go trick-or-treating, go to a party instead".

So, I'm going to tell my child at some point to stop, I'm just not certain about what the right age is to have that talk.

We weren't allowed to go past the age of 12 (6th grade was the last year). It is weird to see middle school kids trick or treating. One young teenage kid last night showed up in a suit and tie. I asked if he was dressed up as a businessman and he said, "a con man."

My son is a jr. in college and I don't think he has ever not gone trick-or-treating on haloween.

wow - you need to send him some more spending money for candy.

I think 6th grade is a good last year.

The year she gets her first blackberry. Just kidding, but I turned out our light last night about 8:30 when the last kid I gave candy to was simultaneously checking his BB.
I think 6th grade is a good endpoint, too.

I actually think 8th or 9th grade, if they haven't chosen to stop by themselves. The most creative and funniest costumes I saw last night were the middle school-aged kids. One boy with a Cheerios box pierced by a sword, a pistol on his hip and a whole bunch of cereal boxes strapped to his chest on a bandolier like ammunition. He was a "Serial/Cereal Killer". funny and very polite.

Two other girls showed up as "gangstas". Mind you, probably upper-middle class white girls in baggy pants, bandanas, backwards ballcaps. I made them make up a rap to do before they got their candy. Lots of laughs and giggles.

The little ones were precious but I think 10-12 can be a fun and creative age before they get "too cool" for trick or treating.

For us it will be around 13/14. I saw some great costumes last night by middle-school kids.

8th grade is the last year for us. As of last night both kids have passed it. We had lots of middle schoolers last night. I see nothing wrong with that.

Whenever they want. I'm sure they will outgrow it on their own. My parents never told me to stop, but I don't remember going past 7th grade.

My son is 12 and this is the first year he did not want to go outside, he is in 7th grade.

None of you remember going trick-or-treating in college??? It's a happy memory for me.
