What radio station is on your preset?

I've been living in DC for several years now, but I still don't know my way around all the radio stations. I used to like HFS, before it disappeared. I have NPR, DC101 and 107.3 on my presets, but need a few more suggestions. What radio stations do you like?

I use WTOP (103.5) for news, weather, traffic, etc. I wish, however, that my car had XM like my husband's does - love the 80s station!

If you like the OLD HFS, then try 94.7....two of the old dj's are there.

101.1 for rock
95.5 for R&B
99.1 for salsa
99.5 for a mix of pop/rock/r&b

NPR
WPFW
DC101
99.5

Glad to hear about the old HFS! Will try 94.7

92.5 from W Va (plays more unusual songs than you usually hear, but very good); or 102.7 ("Jack") from Baltimore; if you can get them (I get them both in some spots in NW/Silver Spring).

I like 94.7 ("the Globe") too -- you should be able to get that one fine!

We moved here about a year ago and found the radio station choices pretty poor. We have Sirius in our car and at home. Wouldn't be without it.

94.7 seems to be trying to fill in the space that HFS left.

Op here. Thanks for the suggestions!

Nothing can ever replace whfs *sigh*. I listened to that station from the time I was 9 years old when The Nighthawks used to be broadcast live on new years eve (yes, my parents were/are very cool.....)

94.7 is okay for a few weeks at a time. Then it gets very repetitive. If you have direct tv, there is a station called XM Cafe that is very good (it is actually an iindy staion out of Philly - I have it on right now and am listening to Lou Reed's Dirty Blvd.....)

WTOP is ok for traffic and weather, but sometimes they don't always report all the traffic backups.

Also, the morning announcers are so annoying (I imagine them as super dorky too) and constantly interject their own opinion at the end of the reports. Their "scientific" reports and statistics are no more than two sentences which deems the report dubious and useless.

The Cane show on 995 is really annoying. The girl's voice is really whiny and I can only tune in for about 10 minutes.

I've resorted to listening to my book on tape.

94.7 FM LOVE IT-- great mix of music. Yeah, radio here isn't too great. Miss the alternative stations, but this is close.

Started listening to HFS in the 70's--I was 9 didn't stop until I went away for college in 80's. Then, morned bitterly when HFS was gone--rejoiced when 94.7 came along with Weasel and Cerphe again. Throw up a little bit in my mouth when they play INXS and other dreadful bands from the last 3 decades--but for the most part theses old guys make the best of a sterile corporate musical environment.

How about 98 Rock? I like some of the other choices as well, but now and then 98 Rock has good stuff on.
