My son is a junior and took the SAT earlier this month, so he got his scores Friday, except for the essay which should be available later this month.

He got 710 verbal and 600 on math. He didn't do any special preparation beyond getting a good nights sleep and eating a decent breakfast.
He will definitely take it again, most likely this spring and we'll encourage him to prep more for the math, but mostly just with online things that are free. At this point we don't plan to enroll him in any courses.

My sister runs a test prep business in NYC. She says the curve on the November SAT was brutal: for example 3 questions wrong on verbal got a 760.

Some test dates seem “easier” than others (section specific typically)- but that’s NOT necessarily a good thing. Easier section = brutal curve.

I heard from my kids that the PSAT this fall was easy, which makes me think there will be a similarly brutal curve for it. Why is College Board designing the tests this way?

My junior DC took the August SAT and scored a 1420. Heard the verbal on that date was hard

November test, DC got 1 math question wrong and it was a 790. Perfect score Verbal-800. Totally happy with score but surprised 1 question wrong brought down the score at all. Maybe it was an easy question??

Do colleges ook at the score breakdowns for each test or just the score totals? My DC took November and got good scores, but did not miss many problems at all...(9 math problems and 12 verbal). If DC took it again and missed the same # the overall scores may be different?

The August was a repeat of an international test given last year, so it did not have the harsh curve, unlike June, October and November.
