Gift cards for college students

Anonymous
I want to send my nephew and nieces gift cards for Christmas since we won’t be together. They are both in college. I don’t know their college localities well enough to get them specific cards to local businesses, so I would like to stick to chains or something local to the DMV because this is their home base. Ideas for this age group? (My own kids are much younger.) Thank you!

Do you know what they like to eat? GCs to food chains are popular for boys and girls at this age. Fast casual is good (please no DCUM harpies) - Panera, Subway, Chipotle, Moe's.

Amazon — books, music, games, clothes, electronics.

I think Amazon is always safe. I also saw that uber has gift cards, if they don't have gift cards at college. Cash is always good!

Amazon gift card is almost like currency --they can buy almost anything

Many college bookstores these days are run by Barnes & Noble. A quick google check will tell you if that's the case with your niece and nephew's schools.

Amazon
Target— they can stock up over Christmas
The Container Store if the live near on
Maybe Bed, Bath and Beyond

Do the have a car on campus! Do they pay for their own gas? If so, Gas Card. (I loved these in college a zillion years ago)

If they have a favorite clothes or cosmetic brand, that’s another idea. Gives them a chance to splurge. Forexample, I love Origins. Younger people like Sephora. And Soma is great for cute PJs and dorm loungewear.

I’d come up with a handful of ideas and ask Mom.

You say you are not familiar with their colleges.... can you boogie the area to see what is local - movie, restaurants, gas, target, etc?
